Property overview: Pen Cefn Cottage Holidays is a small family run business which offers high standard self-catering accommodation in tastefully converted farm buildings. There are four cottages available for letting sleeping 6, 4, 2/3 or 2. Ty Gwennol is a restored two-storey stone built detached Welsh cottage with spectacular views front and back. It comfortably sleeps six people, With oak beams and inglenook fireplace this is a delightful, comfortable and very popular cottage. Ty Hen is a single storey property and has spectacular views over a delightful valley and the mountain known as Foel Goch. It sleeps four people in one double and one twin bedroom, This is a lovely cottage full of beams and old world charm and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Llaethdy, once Pen Cefn’s dairy is a single storey semi-detached cottage beautifully decorated throughout in country farmhouse colours. It is double glazed and has oil-fired central heating. The family bedroom has a double and single bed. With lovely views over the Pen Cefn water gardens and Foel Pen Cefn, this charming little cottage is a firm favourite Hafod Las sleeps 2 people in a double bedroom and is a completely private and self-contained annex to Pen Cefn farmhouse. From the lounge and kitchen windows and the patio there is the most amazing view down the Dee Valley, where you can see Bala lake nestling between the Arenig and Aran Benllyn mountain ranges. This lovely cottage has several features which help guests with mobility difficulties. Description of accommodation: All the cottages are excellently equipped to VisitWales (Tourist Board) Grade 4. All are centrally heated and double glazed making them a suitable venue for any time of year. We are open from February to December inclusive There is a free laundry on site which also houses a video library, books and games for guests to borrow. All cottages have their own secluded fenced garden with garden furniture and bbq which makes them especially safe for children and pets. There is plenty of safe off road parking and lockup facilities for bicycles Nearby Attractions: Bala, our nearest shopping facility, is approximately 5 minutes drive away from Pen Cefn. It is an attractive and lively historic market town, straddling the A494 Dolgellau road, and within the boundaries of the Snowdonia National Park (designated an area of outstanding natural beauty). It is ideally situated for touring North and Mid Wales. One would have difficulty finding a location as well situated as the Bala area. It is within an hour's spectacular drive of most of the coastal resorts of Mid and North Wales, not to mention the innumerable beauty spots and magnificent views within the interior of this beautiful region. There are interesting shops, inns, restaurants and an intriguing historical Town Walk. Bala boasts it’s own lake - Bala Lake or Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales, alongside which runs a charming narrow-gauge steam railway. Llyn Tegid is the home of a unique fish, the Gwyniad (that's for real, not a legend) which is said to date back to the Ice-Age. The Bala region is brimming with outdoor activities. It was the location for the World Canoeing championships on the challenging River Treweryn At the excellent centre you can book a white-water rafting experience! This is great fun and we can recommend it! Bala Lake has a sailing club and a waterborne activities centre. People come from far and wide to use the lake for windsurfing etc. The River Dee is famous for fly fishing and there are opportunities for shooting game or clays. Walking is probably the most popular activity and little wonder with the wealth of beautiful countryside that abounds. Glorious walks are on Pen Cefn's doorstep if you don't feel like driving to start your adventure. Mountain climbing is also available nearby. For those who want to try out their 4-wheel drive machines, there are excellent courses available from Bala. The Tourist Information Centre is located at the Leisure Centre close to the lake-shore and has all the information you will need to find the activities you require, or maybe you will find new ones to challenge you.
