Members & Agents LogIn: | Tourist attractions in ScotlandScotland is a great holiday destination for almost everyone, with a wealth of diverse opportunities and activities to take advantage of. Scotland is a large region with varied geography and a lot of different tourist attractions to choose from. This ensures that all visitors, be they alone, with a partner, or with their entire family, will find something fun to do and something to remember about their visit to Scotland. You can find rental cottages throughout and ther are numerous castles offering accommodation if you are looking for something really special. Shetland, a small region in the north of Scotland, is almost like a blend of Scotland and Norway. It also has a surprisingly wide assortment of geography, from rocky crags and hills to farmland, from sandy dunes to high cliffs and pebble beaches. Shetland has a well-connected network of roads that makes experiencing all of these different locales possible. Being an island located where it is, the Viking influence can still be seen in Shetland’s heritage. Every last Tuesday of January, the annual Viking fire festival called Up Helly Aa is still celebrated. This is the biggest fire festival in the world, involving a torchlight procession of a Viking longship through the streets before setting it spectacularly alight. The Scotland Highlands also has its own share of attractions to offer. The Highlands probably represent most people’s conception of Scotland, with majestic green scenery, wilderness, ancient pine forests and broad expanses of dark loch. But the area has more to offer. Any exploration of the area is bound to start at Inverness, the only urban center in the region. From here, travelers can go north to Cape Wrath, which lies at the very tip of the mainland. Cape Wrath offers visitors its sheer cliffs, sandy bays, and spectacular vistas of the fierce ocean beating against the coast. South of Inverness lies the Great Glen, a huge expanse of beautiful glens, and west the tranquil Ardnamurchan Peninsula, with the “Road to the Isles” running through to Mallaig and Skye. And these are just two of Scotland’s many diverse regions, each with their own unique attractions for the traveler. Orkney, Perthshire, the Kingdom of Fife, and many other regions of Scotland hold places of great beauty and historical significance, as well as fun activities for visitors. |
