Members & Agents LogIn: | Lake District CottagesThe Lake District is a rural area found in the north west of England. It is a very popular holiday or vacation destination, famous for (of course) its lakes and its mountains or fells. There are hundreds of beautifully maintained holiday cottages available to rent in the Lake District. The central and most visited part of this region is included in the Lake District National Park. This largest of England’s National Parks is uniquely situated to take advantage of the remarkable geography of the region, with its hills, mountains, and lakes. This means that the area will offer picturesque, even postcard-worthy views and scenery almost any time of the year. The Lake District is also popular among walkers and hikers, as it contains most of the mountainous regions of England. In fact, all of the places in England more than 3,000 feet above sea level are contained there. This translates to a multitude of hiking and hill-walking opportunities. For instance, one of the most popular walks is Helvellyn, as it can provide a pleasant stroll or a real challenge depending upon the choice of path. The more adventurous could try themselves against Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England at 3,210 feet, or Striding Edge, an exciting narrow ridge. For these walks however, weather forecasts are important to consider, as conditions can change quickly and may lead to potential danger. There are also a lot of other trail choices for the less adventurous, as countless paths are available by the lakes and through the hills. There are “Mountain Goat” buses that take visitors to most of the paths that are suited for walking. An even more leisurely type of exploration is available in the form of boat rides on one of the lakes. The scenery of the Lake District has drawn writers and poets for generations. It has been associated with the works of William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge, and Robert Southey, who became known as the Lake Poets. In fact, William Wordsworth lived in the area, and his home Dove Cottage is now one of the popular attractions. The author of the Peter Rabbit tales, Beatrice Potter, also lived there, at Hill Top near Ambleside |
